Arsenal confirmed their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League, after they defeated Standard Liege 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.
It was a clinical performance by the Gunners on a day when one of the top BPL sides, Liverpool, was knocked out of the competition. Reds, in spite of their 0-1 victory, were sent packing, as Fiorentina defeated Lyon 1-0 to take both the sides through to the next stage.
Samir Nasri and Denilson scored for the home side and silenced all their critics, which included their opponent’s manager, Laszlo Bolini.
With so many injuries to top players and a poor performance against Sunderland during the weekend, Arsene Wenger’s side was facing allegations from all ends. However, a wonderful victory was more than enough to prove the class that the young side has.
This win will also be instrumental in giving the home side the needed boost before the game against Chelsea on Sunday. With both sides in top form, you can expect one of the games of the season to be on the cards at the Emirates Stadium.
