In previous years Arsene Wenger has used the Carling Cup as an opportunity to bring out the talent in his younger members, which has turned out to be very beneficial for the team.

Due to the previous success of this strategy Wenger will be using it once again this season to start off their first Carling Cup match against West Brom.

It is apparent that Wenger has still chosen experienced players to guide the team such as Senderos and Silvestre, but the overall lineup will still be filled with up and coming youngsters.

“You will see Wojciech Szczesny, Ramsey, Gibbs, Wilshere and certainly Vela,” said Wenger. “Traore will play.

“Some experienced players will guide the team like Senderos and Silvestre. But overall it will be a very, very young team as usual.”

Aaron Ramsey is optimistic about this years season and has made it clear that he believes Arsenal has what it takes to win the Carling Cup.

This youngster who played three matches in the Carling Cup last year and has subbed in six times in this years season supports Wengers startegy and also understands that this is a good opportunity to bring out some talent in Arsenal’s youngsters.

“Of course it is a competition we can win, even if the manager fields a young team,” said Ramsey. “We can win any competition.

“No matter what the side is, we have the same mentality to win every game and to win every competition if we can.”

Ramsey added: “It is good that the manager uses the competition to give some youngsters a chance and it is a good opportunity for us to show what we can do.

“It gives us experience and helps us to get used to the surroundings and big crowds.”
