It was couple of poor performances on the trot for the Gunners side, when a team of primarily young players and some reserves took the field at the City of Manchester Stadium against the might of Manchester City. And the Eastlands made merry till the final whistle was blown.
Carlos Tevez, Vladmir Weiss and Shaun Wright-Phillips scored for the home side in a 3-0 drubbing of the visiting Arsenal side. Some experts believed that the score line would have been even worse, if the City would have taken all their chances properly. Read the rest of this entry »

Arsene Wenger has been all praise for his young players, who have enjoyed great success in the League Cup.
Ahead of their clash against Manchester City in the Quarter Finals, Gunners Manager said that he has used this competition for giving experience to the youngsters in his squad all the time.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Carling Cup match on Wednesday, Wenger said, “There are a number of players, who have performed well in the cup. Most of these young players have gone on to become the best players for the side in the Premier League.”
“In this very team, you have players like Denilson and Song, who are examples of this system.”
“Both these players were a part of the Gunners side that won 6-3 at Anfield 3 season back. Song was not even a favorite for many to be a part of the Gunners starting eleven. However, now, both of them have become an integral part of the starting eleven.”
Speaking on the match, he said, “It is going to be a tough game, but you can always be assured that Arsenal will come out prepared to give City a run for their money.”

Arsene Wenger is keeping his eye on the Bordeaux forward, Marouane Chamakh as one of his targets when the next transfer window open in a month.
Following a comprehensive 0-3 loss to London rivals at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal is looking to coming back hard against their opponents. The the fact that Robin Van Persie may not be available for the next few months has Wenger thinking about reviving his interest in the striker.
During the previous transfer window, there was a huge speculation of Chamakh coming over to the Emirates Stadium, but it never happened. There were rumors that his valuation was found out to be a bit to high for Wenger.
However, the striker’s contract is about to expire during this coming summer and we can expect Wenger to make a move to get him on the team.
There are reports that the 25-year-old star is favoring a switch in January. However, due to the fact that the star is ineligible to play with the Gunners in the Champions League, makes it a difficult decision.
Other strikers on Arsenal radars include Real Madrid’s Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Andre-Pierre Gignac from Toulouse.

Arsene Wenger will be looking forward to stop the in-form Chelsea side, when his young Gunners take on the league leaders at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
With his side hit by a number of injuries (England U-21 Gibbs recently joining the list), it is going to be a tough task for Arsenal to stop the league leaders. However, if the inspirational performance against Standard Liege showed us anything, it was that Arsenal is determined to win and Chelsea will not have an easy match.
The Gunners are going to have to look out for Chelsea’s Didier Drogba as he is coming into this game with an impressive record. He has scored 8 goals in their last eight meetings. This form has been instrumental in helping the Blues secure a 7 recent wins. Arsenal’s weakened defense (without Clichy and Gibbs) has a strong chance of being exploited by the likes of former Gunners star, Nicolas Anelka, Ballack, Essien and Joe Cole. So, its buckle up time for Gallas & Co!
Meanwhile, the Blues also have their share of problems with Ricardo Carvallho and Deco unavailable due to injuries. This is a great opportunity for the home side who, without Robin Van Persie, Bendtner and Wilshire, has been in good goal scoring form this season. Fabregas, Arshavin, Denilson and Eduardo will have to take charge and dictate terms from the onset or else there will be a stiff mountain to climb.
If you go by recent form, Chelsea, with four clean sheets in a row (including a thumping 4-0 win over the Wolves in their last Premier League game), is favorite to win the game. However, Arsenal, like it has done all season, will fight till the end and is not going to leave any stone unturned as they have a great chance to prove the critics wrong once again.
